The Mousetrapper Advance 2.0 is an inline / central pointing device that is based around the innovative "steering control pad" that incorporates features and concepts of both a touchpad and a treadmill. The silicone-coated, slip-free steering pad requires only finger-tip pressure to achieve precise cursor movement (up to 2000 DPI), left click activation and vertical scrolling. Unlike traditional touch pads where the finger is moved across a static surface, the fingertips are used to dynamically move the steering pad, sliding it left or right and "running" it up and down in treadmill-like fashion. The fingers can rest on the steering pad between mouse activation tasks, with a left click being activated anywhere on the steering pad by simply pressing down against the pad. Because the fingers are physically moving the steering pad there is a much greater degree of tactile feedback than is provided by traditional touchpads, which in turn facilitates a greater degree of accuracy and control. As well, because the steering pad is not touch-sensitive there is no fear of movement disruption if additional fingers contact the steering pad - in fact, most people will naturally use multiple fingers to move the pad, making it a more natural movement than traditional touchpad control. The two-dimensional steering pad also offers an intuitive interface that for some may be easier to adjust to than rollerbars, touchpads or trackballs.

Six buttons adjacent to the steering pad provide quick access to double click, right click, left click, cruise (scroll)-up, and cruise (scroll)-down functions. All click functions can be re-programmed or customized using the optional MT Keys software which offers a wide range of keyboard short cut or macro options as well as cursor DPI adjustment. An integrated "keyboard support" pad can also be folded out to elevate low profile keyboards or stored below the Mousetrapper when using more traditional keyboards.

The body of the Mousetrapper Advance also serves as a palm support to help minimize the risk of wrist extension with replaceable Lycra-covered pads offering cushioning to reduce pressure points against the palms and wrists. Like most central pointing devices, the Mousetrapper Advance requires no overextension of the shoulder joint, and can significantly reduce the risk of repetitive strain injuries to the muscles of the shoulder and upper back.

The Advance 2.0 differs from the Advance (SMT417) cosmetically by being available in two models with stylish accent colours: white (MT112) or turquoise (MT113). Functional differences include six programmable buttons instead of five — the central button on the Advance has been replaced in the 2.0 with two scroll buttons for up and down. In addition, the palm supports on the Advance 2.0 are replaceable (unlike those on the Advance), which makes cleaning the palm supports much easier.

The Unimouse from Contour Design is designed to encourage regular changing of hand position throughout the day or as discomfort is detected. It incorporates a 35° - 70° friction-based tilt mechanism and a fully articulating thumb support designed to adapt the mouse to fit the dimensions of most hands. The Unimouse is available in models for both the right and left hands.

For most individuals the 35° - 70° range of adjustment is sufficient to provide a vertical orientation that can offer an optimized and relaxed hand position. The friction-based adjustment also lets them incrementally adjust the angle throughout the day in response to the particular work being performed or when responding to negative feedback their body may be providing. The vertical tilt is complemented by the articulating thumb support that can be adjusted through a full 3-D range. By taking advantage of the pivot, slide, and pull-out options on the thumb support anyone can adapt the mouse for their own hand length and width, fine-tuning the dimensions to fit their exact needs. As with the tilt option - if discomfort is detected, minor adjustments to find an optimum position are virtually effortless. Because none of the adjustments on the Unimouse are actually "locked in" those who wish to avoid static posture of the hand have the option of encouraging postural change by changing the Unimouse body angle and thumb support position at any time.

The Unimouse is equipped with a 10 level sensor that reads from 800 - 2800 DPI. Sensitivity adjustment is via a single button located on the top of the base, just behind the 2-colour indicators. Individual performance preferences are easily accommodated as are the varying cursor control requirements that can arise when performing varying types of computer work. The three low-force buttons have a 20 million click rating and feature crisp activation with an audible click. These provide access to Left, Middle and Right Clicks. An on-board shortcut offers the option of switching the Middle Click button to perform a Double Click with Auto Scroll/Scroll Lock remaining accessible via the scroll wheel click. The scroll wheel is equipped with a rubber tire for grip and has distinct but soft detents.

Those who like to customize their mouse will appreciate the wide range of programmable options that are available. There are six programmable buttons, all of which can be reassigned to perform any standard mouse action as well as a wide range of speciality actions. For those with a good memory the available PC and Mac compatible drivers also offer the option of setting "program specific" command layouts. In the program specific mode only 5 buttons remain accessible for programming.

If the freedom of a wireless device is desired the rechargeable Unimouse Wireless is available.

The Mousetrapper Prime from Mousetrapper is an inline / central pointing device that offers the convenience and flexibility of both wired and wireless operation. As with all other members of the Mousetrapper family of devices, the Mousetrapper Prime facilitates cursor control through the innovative "steering pad". Incorporating features and concepts of both a touchpad and a treadmill, the steering pad offers fingertip control for precise cursor movement, left click activation and vertical scrolling. Eight programmable buttons, plus the steering pad, provide quick access to double click, left click, right click, zoom out, zoom in, cruise (or scroll) down, cruise (or scroll) up, copy, and paste functions. All buttons and cursor speeds are also fully reprogrammable if desired.

The Mousetrapper Prime sits directly below the keyboard with the steering pad centered below the alpha-numeric keys on a standard full-size keyboard and able to be controlled by either hand. The steering pad features a slip-free silicone traction surface for the finger tips, offering near-effortless onscreen navigation and cursor control. The fingers can rest on the steering pad between mouse activation tasks, with clicking accomplished simply by pressing down against the pad.

The Mousetrapper Prime features replaceable and wipeable palm supports and has an attached "keyboard support" that can be folded out to elevate low profile keyboards or folded below the Mousetrapper when using more traditional keyboards. Like most central pointing devices, the Mousetrapper Prime requires no overextension of the shoulder joint, and can significantly reduce the risk of repetitive strain injuries to the muscles of the shoulder and upper back.

In addition to the above features, the functionality of the Prime is greatly enhanced by the downloadable MT Keys software, which includes the ability to paste text up to 254 characters long using a single button and to add user profiles. MT Keys can also be used to adjust the Mousetraapper Prime cursor speed (up to 2000 dpi). The wireless mode functions via USB with the included receiver, while the rechargeable battery has six months of battery life between charges.

The RollerMouse Go (formerly the RollerMouse Mobile) by Contour Design is a compact version of the well-known RollerMouse Red, designed for mobility and ideally suited for use with compact keyboards. This central pointing device conveniently positions between the operator and keyboard space bar, keeping mousing activity "inline", i.e., in the area immediately in front of the keyboard, and eliminating the need to reach for a mouse. This also makes it suitable for use where there may be insufficient room for a mouse to be placed immediately beside the keyboard. Like all RollerMouse products, cursor movement is achieved by manipulating the tube-like cylindrical "rollerbar" with the fingertips. Rotating the rollerbar moves the cursor up and down, and sliding the bar from side to side accomplishes horizontal movement. Once the desired location is achieved, a left click can be generated by pressing down on the bar (the force required for this is adjustable from an ultra-light touch to highly tactile). Four tactile buttons and a clickable scroll wheel are located below the bar to generate left/middle/right clicks, copy, paste, and vertical scrolling. Cursor speed can be adjusted via a button on the right end of the RollerMouse Go, with ten different speed settings from 600 to 4000 DPI. The RollerMouse Go also ships with two heights of rubber feet that can be used to elevate low profile compact keyboards to better match the rollerbar height. Controls can also be customized using the downloadable driver.

The RollerMouse Go is equipped with the same larger diameter rollerbar found on the RED, as compared to that on the FREE3 or PRO3. On the RollerMouse Go this 0.8" diameter bar is 3.875" wide and offers a finer degree of control, especially for vertical movement. The surface of the bar is textured with raised bumps that offer tactile feedback to further improve all aspects of cursor control. Innovative tracking technology on the RollerMouse Go further enhances cursor control, letting it work equally well on both single and multi-monitor workstations. All these design elements make cursor control more precise and effortless without compromising durability and the robust nature of the sturdy aluminum housing. To further improve the ergonomics even the traditional mechanical "click" has been replaced with a newer "virtual" clicking mechanism that generates a "percussion-free" but audible "click" that can be adjusted in volume or fully disabled if so desired.

Because the RollerMouse Go is designed for mobile use it offers features not available on the larger RollerMouse Red. This compact RollerMouse offers three connection options - to Bluetooth-enabled devices, via a an included 2.4 gHz wireless receiver, or as a wired device via the included charging cable. It also comes with a folding protective sleeve that attaches and closes magnetically.

While the RollerMouse Go can work perfectly well with any type or size of keyboard those using full-size or separated keyboards may wish to consider one of the full-size RollerMouse Models.

The Expert Mouse Wired Trackball from Kensington is a well-established and proven mousing solution. The large lightweight 55 mm ball features a silky, smooth movement that offers sufficient resistance without straining the fingers. This smooth movement, combined with Diamond Eye optical technology, ensures precision level cursor control is available for gaming, photo editing, or everyday work. The Expert Mouse Wired Trackball also features a ScrollRing around the base of the ball, giving users easy access to quick scrolling whenever necessary.

Basic mouse click functions are plug-and-play but users also have the option of installing the TrackballWorks software for total customization of the 4 large buttons surrounding the ball. Custom and program-specific commands and macros can be programmed for easy completion without the hand leaving the trackball. The ambidextrous design easily accommodates both right and left-handed use and includes a detachable rest to aid users in maintaining a more ergonomic neutral wrist alignment.

Users who prefer a wireless device may wish to consider the Expert Mouse Wireless Trackball which offers all of the same functionality as the Expert Mouse Optical but with the addition of both Bluetooth and standard 2.4 Ghz wireless freedom.

The Expert Mouse Wired Trackball will fit most hands. However, if a user has a small hand they may wish to consider the Orbit Trackball with Scroll Ring which features a smaller 40 mm trackball and is better suited for smaller hands.

The RollerMouse Pro3 by Contour Design is a central pointing device that positions immediately between the operator and keyboard space bar. This keeps all mousing activity "inline", i.e., in the area immediately in front of the keyboard, eliminating the need to reach for a mouse. The rollerbar mechanism is undergirded by a sturdy aluminum base that provides overall rigidity and keeps the RollerMouse from shifting position.

The cursor speed button located between the copy and paste buttons facilitates rapid selection between the ten cursor speed settings that range from 600 to 2400 dpi, ideal when work requires both fine control as well as rapid movement across multiple screens. Five buttons and a scroll wheel are located below the bar to generate left/middle/right clicks, copy, paste and vertical scrolling. All button functions can also be customized using the downloadable driver. The Pro3 comes equipped with optional adjustable keyboard "risers" that can be installed to elevate low profile conventional and compact single piece keyboards. The body of the RollerMouse Pro3 serves as an integrated palm support, with padded leatherette cushions that can be detached for cleaning if necessary. If a larger and more cushioned palm support is desired the RollerWave3 Accessory can be purchased separately.

The RollerMouse Pro3 offers less access to the rollerbar, just 6.6", than either the RollerMouse Free3 or the RollerMouse Red. It also has a slightly shorter travel distance than either of those models. As a result, when working with multiple screens it will usually be necessary to employ a higher cursor speed setting. Doing this will help avoid activating the end detection that automatically moves the cursor to the far side of the screen. If regularly working across dual or triple monitors either the RollerMouse Free3 or RollerMouse Red models would be more suitable options as they both offer a greater range of cursor movement before the end detection function is activated.

The Pro Fit Ergo Vertical Wireless Mouse from Kensington presents with a body angle of approximately 47°. A short flange keeps the side of the hand clear of the surface but still permits most of the little finger to make contact during movement. This wireless mouse is contoured specifically for right-handed use and operates plug-and-play. However, optional drivers are available for both Windows and Mac OS should one desire to customize the button functions. A convenient DPI switch accommodates quick access to four DPI settings (800, 1000, 1200 and 1600) to accommodate different work requirements. The wireless receiver offers an impressive 20 metre range and can be stored in the underside of the mouse to ensure it isn't misplaced. The scroll wheel is spherical and has a lower protrusion from the body of the mouse than most traditional scroll wheels with rotation being possible using the side of the fingers. Detents provide clear feedback but the smaller diameter of the scroll "sphere" seems to require a greater degree of force than most traditional "wheel" designs.

The size of this mouse means it is best suited for smaller to average sized hands. The body is narrower than most vertical mouse designs, which can lead to a tendency to want to "grip" the mouse which has the potential to lead to exerting unnecessary static grip force.
Note: While being identified by the manufacturer as a "vertical" mouse this angle is substantially less than most other "vertical" mousing products, the majority of which orient the hand well above 60° and therefore much closer to a truly vertical presentation.
