The MX Vertical Advanced Ergonomic Mouse from Logitech is their first attempt at offering a mouse which more aggressively reduces pronation than other mice in their line. The body of the MX Vertical is angled at a fixed 57° to reduce the risks associated with pronation of the forearm. The angled body is designed to provide the support necessary for the hand to "relax" while engaged with the mouse. However, those with smaller or narrower hands may find that they need to maintain a degree of tension to hold their hands "up" in position over the buttons. Large or wide hands will likely have less of a problem with this requirement to maintain hand position.

The MX Vertical is equipped with a top quality sensor capable of reading from 400 - 4000 DPI. Two nominal settings of 1000 and 1600 DPI can be adjusted anywhere within the range in 50 DPI increments. The top-mounted DPI button enables users to adjust the mouse as needed for basic or fine control movements. The scroll wheel has a rubber tire for grip and features distinct but soft detents. There are 4 programmable buttons (left, right, back, & forward).

The MX Vertical offers 3 connection options: Wired via the charging cord, 2.4Ghz Logitech Unifying Receiver with an operation distance up to 33 feet, and Bluetooth (Bluetooth Low Energy Technology required). The 270mAh Li-Po rechargeable battery can provide up to 4 months use on a single charge and offers a 1 minute Quick Charge that can provide up to 3 hours of use. Of course, individual usage may affect this. Using Logitech "FLOW" users are able to connect to and control up to 3 computing devices using a single mouse.

The "flatness" of the buttons on the MX Vertical prohibit the fingers from achieving a fully relaxed and naturally curved "position of function". This factor, combined with the almost slick surface on the buttons could lead users to try to "pinch" the mouse between the thumb and fingers in an attempt to achieve a better sensation of "control". In addition, to minimize the activation force on the buttons the fingertips need to be as close to the end of the buttons as possible. Those with large hands or very long fingers may be able to achieve this position but most users will find their fingertips falling short of this "optimum" position, resulting in a higher force being required for click activation.

The Kensington Vertical Wireless Mouse angles the hand outwards towards a semi-vertical position in an effort to reduce pronation. A short flange keeps the side of the hand clear of the surface but still permits most of the little finger to make contact during movement. This wireless mouse is contoured specifically for right-handed use and operates plug-and-play. However, optional drivers are available for both Windows and Mac OS should one desire to customize the button functions. A convenient DPI switch accommodates quick access to five DPI settings (800, 1200, 1600, 2000, & 2400) to accommodate different work requirements. The wireless receiver has a 10 metre range and can be stored in the underside of the mouse to ensure it isn't misplaced. The traditional scroll wheel is clickable.

The size of this mouse means it is best suited for smaller or average sized hands. The body is narrower than most vertical mouse designs, which can lead to a tendency to want to "grip" the mouse which has the potential to lead to exerting unnecessary static grip force.
Note: While being identified by the manufacturer as a "vertical" mouse this angle is substantially less than most other "vertical" mousing products, the majority of which orient the hand well above 60° and therefore much closer to a truly vertical presentation.

The Slimblade Wired Media Control Trackball from Kensington is designed to provide specialized functionality to those working with audio, video, or image editing. Three modes of operation can be accessed. The Slimblade defaults to View mode which offers traditional cursor control and scrolling function; however, Media and View modes can be easily accessed with a single click. The Media mode provides users with quick access to play/pause, stop, and track forward/backward functions while the View mode offers zoom and pan options. A heads-up display on the monitor advises users as to which application is active and what function is being performed.

The Slimblade departs from other Kensington trackball designs by employing a 55 mm trackball which is noticeably heavier for its dimensions than other models. In order to accommodate the need to grip and rotate the ball to accomplish common tasks such as vertical scrolling, 80% of the trackball projects above the housing height, resting freely on top of the trackball base.

Note: While providing users with a stylish look and generous functionality, the Slimblade Media Control Trackball does require repetitive pinching and twisting actions to perform common tasks. As well, the increased elevation of the trackball above the housing can lead to significantly greater wrist extension than other trackball designs. These types of actions and hand placement are often considered potential contributors to the development of complaints such as carpal tunnel or other RSI. Users may wish to consider the intended usage and the degree to which these actions may be required along with any realized benefits when selecting a suitable device.

The StealthSwitch1 Single Action Programmable Foot Switch from H-Mod is an ideal and cost-effective solution for individuals who wish to use their foot to perform just a single keyboard or mouse-click action. The StealthSwitch1 began life as a simple privacy switch which could immediately mute sound, hide the taskbar, hide all desktop icons, and even password protect the restore function at the same time, with just a single click of the footswitch and still can perform that function. However, with the new software driver from H-Mod the StealthSwitch1 now offers a greatly expanded range of programmable commands in addition to the original privacy functions. An easily-navigated interface lets one effortlessly program the StealthSwitch1 to perform Single Key commands, mouse clicks (including a double-click), run programs, control media, etc. The unique "tripod" design of the footpedal means that it is easily activated from any direction. To ensure that accidental activations do not occur the pedal does offer a high enough resistance that most will be able to leave their foot resting on the pedal without risk of activation.

Note: The StealthSwitch1 is driver dependent which means that the driver software must be installed and actively running for the switch to perform the assigned actions.

In order to fully benefit from the expanded capabilities of the StealthSwitch1 users should visit the manufacturer's Download Page and install the most up to date software, titled: "StealthSwitch Pro Software Version 3.09.000" for Windows, or: "StealthSwitch Pro OSX Version 1.0.1" for Mac. Those who wish to perform multiple functions or to enter multi-key commands will want to consider one of the other available Foot Switch options.

The Pro Fit Ergo Wireless Mouse from Kensington presents with a body angle of approximately 40°, rotating the hand away from a traditional fully prone position. This wireless mouse is contoured specifically for right-handed use and operates plug-and-play. It is able to connect via either standard 2.4 GHz wireless with the included receiver dongle, or through Bluetooth 4.0 with devices that can support this option. A switch on the underside changes mode and doubles as a batter-saving power switch. Optional software is available for both Windows and Mac OS should one desire to customize the button functions. A convenient DPI switch just behind the scroll wheel accommodates quick access to three DPI settings (800, 1200 and 1600) to accommodate different work requirements. The wireless receiver can be stored in the underside of the mouse to ensure it isn't misplaced. The scroll wheel has detents to provide clear feedback response. The click action is somewhat soft and very quiet. This lack of tactile and auditory feedback may make it difficult to determine when clicks have truly activated and may lead to a greater degree of force being exerted, resulting in unnecessary stress on the fingers.

The size of this mouse means it is best suited for smaller to average sized hands as those with larger hands will find their palm either unsupported or their fingers extending past the end of the buttons, with the "inset" of the buttons into the body of the mouse making it difficult to perform clicks. The body is fairly narrow as well, encouraging "gripping" rather than permitting larger hands to relax.

RollerMouse Pro2

The RollerMouse Pro2 by Contour Design is a central pointing device which uses a rollerbar instead of a traditional mouse and is designed to sit immediately in front of the keyboard below the space bar. This allows one to perform all mousing activity in the area immediately 'below' the keyboard, eliminating the need to reach for a mouse. The RollerMouse Pro2 is best for workspaces with insufficient room for a mouse by freeing up space, providing more room in restricted workspaces.

The cursor is moved by rolling a 'dowel' or cyclindrical control bar with the fingertips to achieve 'up' and 'down' movement, and sliding this bar from side to side for horizontal movement. Once the desired location is achieved, the left click can be generated by pressing down on the bar (the force required for this is adjustable from ultra-light touch to highly tactile). Five buttons and a scroll wheel are located below the bar to generate left/middle/right clicks, copy, paste and vertical scrolling.

The Pro2 comes with adjustable keyboard 'risers' to lift up conventional and compact single piece keyboards. This product does not work well with adjustable or separated keyboards such as the Kinesis Freestyle2 or the Goldtouch keyboard - if you want to use this product with these types of keyboards, we recommend the rubberized RollerMouse Mat accessory or consider purchasing the RollerMouse Free3 or the Rollermouse Re:d.

*** Note: Keyboard not included.

Compare the RollerMouse Pro2 with the RollerMouse Red and the Free2, Mousetrapper Advance Plus, and Mousetrapper Flexible.

The TrackMan Marble from Logitech is a space-saving ambidextrous trackball with a well-established record. Somewhat unique to the TrackMan Marble is the forward placement of the 40 mm trackball which sees the ball positioned almost at the very front of the unit. This puts it directly under the fingertips of the ring, index and middle fingers, freeing users to employ any or all of these in providing cursor control. The long Left and Right click buttons are located further back along the sides of the trackball body, providing easy access for the thumb and ring or pinky finger. Small inset secondary buttons offer web browser Backward and Forward commands. Cursor control on the Trackman Marble is very smooth and accurate, with the ball weighing enough that response is easily controlled. The weight of the ball is also great enough to enable users to "spin" it for rapid movement across large areas or multiple screens.

The narrow design of the TrackMan Marble is best suited to users with small to average-sized hands as those with larger or wider hands may tend to "pinch" the trackball in order to maintain placement. However, the length of the body and the primary buttons does mean that users with longer hands can accomplish excellent cursor control while still easily performing click actions.

Some users may find the absence of a dedicated scroll feature on the TrackMan Marble less than ideal. However this concern can to a great extent be addressed by installing and running the customization software available from Logitech which can enable the trackball to be used as a scrollwheel (on PCs) or the Back/Forward buttons as Scroll Up/Down (on MACs).

Note:Unlike many trackballs, the ball on the Trackman Marble is easily removed from the housing for cleaning.
